Taking care of dentures

Posted on 7/10/2023 by Star Orthodontics
Taking care of denturesDentures refer to the removable or false teeth used in place of lost teeth. These teeth not only look natural but also work sufficiently in improving your smile. Though they are false teeth, they need to be cleaned and taken care of the same way you would your natural teeth.

Rinse after eating

Doctors advise on the need to remove dentures and rinse them with clean water after every meal. Rinsing is vital in getting rid of food debris and plaque that could get stuck in the dentures. As you rinse the dentures, be sure to rinse the mouth as well. All along, during the removal and implanting of the dentures, ensure that you handle them with care. Damage to the plastic or the clasps will only result in the need for replacement.

Brushing daily

We are cognizant of the fact that sometimes it may be difficult to rinse the dentures after every meal. If that is the case, ensure that you brush the dentures at least once every day. Our dental care experts advise on the need to steer clear of abrasive cleaning materials such as whitening toothpaste or hot water. Hot water can especially warp the dentures and thus cause damage. A soft-bristled toothbrush and regular toothpaste will do just fine. Furthermore, there are special denture cleaning brushes available in the market that you can always consider.

Soaking overnight

Soaking the dentures overnight helps to keep them moist. The moist environment is what ensures that they remain in shape. Always ensure that you stick to the instructions given by our dentists to avoid unnecessary damage. During the initial months after getting dentures, see to it that you do not skip any of the dental visits that our dentists recommend to you. Monitoring and evaluation are key in warranting the long life of dentures. Our team of dental experts is on standby ready to attend to your denture needs and overall dental health.
