Procedures Involved in Orthodontics Orthodontic treatment is a dental procedure that helps in teeth removal and straightening, enhancing teeth appearance and improving the functioning of teeth. The following are some procedures in orthodontics.

Invisalign is a procedure that helps to effectively straighten teeth and correct smile without using braces. Clear plastic tray aligners are used and act as retainers. Changing these tray aligners is done after every two weeks. This helps adjust the teeth' shape. These braces can be removed when one is eating or for cleaning purposes. Orthodontists recommend wearing these aligners for 20 to 22 hours every day for them to work effectively. However, sometimes Invisalign is less effective in dealing with complex issues.

These are plastic or metal that are custom made to match the shape of a patient's mouth and alignment of teeth. There are two types of retainers, removable and fixed. Orthodontists recommend them to help patients keep the bite corrected and for preventing teeth from shifting back into their original places. They are also used to correct minor problems that involve one or two teeth. Compared to braces, they are less obtrusive and therefore can be removed which makes maintaining oral hygiene easier.

Traditional Braces

Orthodontists carry out a procedure that involves cementing metal brackets onto the teeth and then passing a metal wire on them. These braces are not removable and stay on teeth until treatment is fully achieved. Braces help correct crooked and overcrowded teeth, misaligned bites, and jaw addition, problems related to eating and speaking properly are corrected using braces.

Lingual Braces

These braces are placed behind teeth, facing the tongue and palate, unlike the traditional braces which are placed in front of teeth. Lingual braces have a lesser impact on speaking since they don't interfere with lips' movement.

Orthodontic Elastics

Elastics are special rubber bands which are used together with braces to help correct jaw problems. They pull the jaw forward or backward helping in the improvement of the bite and speeding up the alignment process. For your perfect smile, come see us today!
